- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 800g canned crushed tomatoes or fresh tomato puree
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano or basil
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions 👩🍳
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and cook until soft and golden.
- Stir in garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and mix well.
- Add salt, pepper, oregano, and sugar if needed.
- Sprinkle in the baking soda carefully. Watch the sauce foam up — that’s the acid being neutralized!
- Stir gently and let the sauce simmer for 15–20 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve over pasta, pizza, or bread.
