INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili flakes or chili paste
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- Green onions & sesame seeds for garnish
- Cooked rice or noodles for serving
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a bowl, mix sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add onions and cook slowly until golden and caramelized, about 10–12 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining oil to the pan. Cook beef in batches over high heat for 2–3 minutes until browned.
- Stir in garlic and chili flakes, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return caramelized onions to the skillet. Add oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, and water. Toss everything together until coated and glossy.
- Cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot with rice or noodles.
TIPS
- Slice beef thinly while slightly frozen for easier cutting.
- High heat gives the beef a delicious restaurant-style sear.
- Add bell peppers or broccoli for extra vegetables.
- Adjust chili level to make it mild or extra spicy.
- For deeper flavor, marinate the beef overnight in the fridge.
