This classic vanilla bread pudding is a warm, comforting dessert made from simple ingredients like bread, milk, eggs, sugar, and spices. It’s soft, creamy inside with a lightly golden top and becomes extra delicious when served with rich vanilla sauce. Perfect for using leftover bread and enjoying a homemade traditional treat.
INGREDIENTS
For Bread Pudding:
- 6 cups stale bread (cubed)
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)
For Vanilla Sauce:
- 1 cup milk or cream
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp butter
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare bread
Cut stale bread into cubes and place in a baking dish.
2. Make custard mix
In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
3. Combine
Pour the custard mixture over the bread. Let it soak for 10–15 minutes.
4. Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 35–45 minutes until golden and set.
5. Make vanilla sauce
In a small pan, whisk milk/cream, sugar, and egg yolk on low heat until slightly thick. Add vanilla and butter.
6. Serve
Pour warm vanilla sauce over hot bread pudding and serve immediately.

- Use stale bread for best texture (fresh bread becomes too mushy)
- Let the bread soak well for richer flavor
- Do not overbake or it will become dry
- Add chocolate chips or dried fruits for extra taste
