INGREDIENTS
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 10 g instant dry yeast
- 40 g sugar
- 8 g salt
- 250–300 ml warm milk or water
- 40 g butter (softened)
- 1 egg (optional, for richer texture)
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Add warm milk (or water) and mix to form a soft dough.
- Add butter (and egg if using) and knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place on a baking tray.
- Cover and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with butter after baking for a soft crust.
TIPS
- Always use warm (not hot) liquid to activate yeast properly.
- Knead well to develop soft and fluffy texture.
- Do not skip the second rise; it makes rolls extra light.
- You can brush with milk before baking for a shiny top.
- Store in an airtight container to keep them soft longer.
