Homemade Fresh Tomato Sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 kilogram ripe tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional but recommended)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional for aroma)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Wash tomatoes and cut a small “X” on the bottom of each.
  2. Boil water in a pot and blanch tomatoes for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Remove and place them in cold water, then peel off the skins.
  4. Chop the peeled tomatoes finely or blend them for a smooth sauce.
  5. Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
  6. Add blended tomatoes and cook on medium heat for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Stir in tomato paste, salt, pepper, and sugar if using.
  8. Simmer for another 10–20 minutes until sauce thickens.
  9. Add fresh basil at the end for extra flavor.

TIPS

  • Use very ripe tomatoes for best natural sweetness.
  • Simmer longer for a thicker, richer sauce.
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • You can freeze it for up to 2 months.
