The Power of Charity in Ramadan – Why It Matters

Charity holds a special place in Islam, and during Ramadan, its significance is even greater. This sacred month is a time of generosity, compassion, and seeking Allah’s mercy. If you want to multiply your rewards and purify your wealth, giving charity in Ramadan is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss.

Did you know that our beloved Prophet ﷺ was at his most generous during Ramadan? His kindness spread like a strong, refreshing wind, touching everyone around him with warmth and relief.

Ramadan offers a unique chance to give, as every act of charity is rewarded many times over. Are you ready to maximize your blessings?

Let’s explore why giving in this blessed month is so powerful and how you can take part.

The Significance of Charity in Ramadan

Numerous hadiths highlight the immense rewards of giving charity, especially in Ramadan. Here are some of the most inspiring ones:

1. Charity Will Be a Shade on the Day of Judgment

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

ظِلُّ الْمُؤْمِنِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ صَدَقَتُهُ

“The shade of the believer on the Day of Resurrection is his charity.”
[Musnad Ahmad: 23490]

Imagine standing under the blazing sun on the Day of Judgment, with no protection—except for the shade of your generosity. Every act of giving you do today will serve as a shelter for you in the Hereafter.

May Allah accept our charity and increase our rewards in this blessed month. Let’s take this opportunity to give, spread kindness, and earn His mercy.

Charity is one of the most rewarding acts of worship, and in Ramadan, its significance increases manifold. It is a way to earn Allah’s mercy, protect ourselves from harm, and purify our wealth. The Prophet ﷺ was the most generous during this blessed month, setting an example for us to follow.

Here are some profound reasons why giving charity in Ramadan is so important:

2. Charity Shields You from Hellfire

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ

“Save yourself from hellfire even by giving half a date in charity.”
[Sahih Al-Bukhari: 1417]

Even the smallest act of charity can serve as protection from the fire of Hell. In Ramadan, when we seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy, giving charity is a powerful means to secure His protection.

3. Charity Wipes Away Sins

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ

“Sadaqah (charity) extinguishes sins just as water extinguishes fire.”
[Jami At-Tirmidhi: 614]

Ramadan is a time of purification—of our hearts, actions, and sins. Just as fasting cleanses the soul, charity washes away our past mistakes, bringing us closer to Allah’s mercy.

4. Charity Does Not Decrease Wealth

Rasulullah ﷺ said:

“Charity does not decrease wealth. No one forgives another but that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah raises his status.”
[Sahih Muslim: 2588]

Giving in charity never leads to loss; instead, it increases blessings and brings true success, both in this world and the Hereafter.

5. Secret Charity Extinguishes Allah’s Anger

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said:

وَصَدَقَةُ السِّرِّ تُطْفِئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ

“Giving charity secretly extinguishes the Anger of Allah.”
[Al-Mu’jamul Kabir of Imam Tabarani, Hadith: 8014, Classified as Hasan]

A sincere act of charity done in private, without seeking recognition, is one of the best ways to earn Allah’s pleasure and soften His judgment upon us.

Ramadan is a time of immense blessings and an opportunity to seek the forgiveness of Allah. To gain His mercy, we must also protect ourselves from His wrath—one of the best ways to do so is by giving Sadaqah (charity).

Watch the video below to learn more about the significance of Sadaqah in Ramadan.

Why Should You Give Sadaqah in Ramadan?

We have already discussed the importance of giving charity in Ramadan. Now, let’s explore why this act holds such great virtue.

6. Sadaqah in Ramadan is the Best Charity

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked:

فَأَىُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ

Meaning: “Which charity is the best?”

He ﷺ replied: “Charity given in Ramadan.”
[Jami At-Tirmidhi: 663 (Classified as Da’if – Weak)]

Even though this narration is classified as weak, it highlights the special significance of giving charity during this blessed month.

7. Giving Charity in Ramadan is Sunnah

The generosity of the Prophet ﷺ increased in Ramadan more than at any other time. It is narrated:

Meaning: “Allah’s Messenger ﷺ was the most generous of people, and he would be even more generous in Ramadan when Jibril (Gabriel) would meet him. Jibril would meet him every night in Ramadan to teach him the Qur’an, and during this time, the Prophet ﷺ was more generous than a strong, uncontrolled wind (in his haste to do good).”
[Sahih Al-Bukhari: 6]

This hadith clearly shows that the Prophet ﷺ increased his charity in Ramadan. As his followers, we should also strive to give more during this blessed month.

8. Multiply Your Rewards—More Than 83 Years of Charity!

Ramadan includes Laylatul Qadr—the most sacred night of the year. Allah says in the Qur’an:

لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍۢ

Meaning: “The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.”
[Surah Al-Qadr: 3]

Any good deed performed on Laylatul Qadr is rewarded as if it was done for more than 83 years. Imagine the immense reward of giving Sadaqah on this night!

👉 Don’t miss this opportunity. During the odd nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan, give as much charity as you can to maximize your blessings and seek Allah’s mercy.

May Allah accept our charity and grant us forgiveness in this blessed month. Ameen. 🤲
