Fireworks at the World’s Tallest Tower
Among the eager spectators were Polish couple Małgosia and Remik, who arrived in Dubai just two days before the New Year. Determined to make the most of their trip, they secured prime front-table dinner reservations at a sushi restaurant in Dubai Mall. “The Burj Khalifa fireworks are famous throughout the world, so on December 31, we wanted to spend it near the world’s tallest tower and see the fireworks firsthand,” said Małgosia. The couple planned to return home to their children on January 2, after enjoying a brief getaway filled with sunshine and good weather.
A Night to Remember: Fireworks and Drones Take Center Stage
Dubai once again proved why it’s the global capital of celebrations. The iconic Burj Khalifa served as the canvas for a jaw-dropping light and laser show, synchronized perfectly with vibrant fireworks that painted the skyline in brilliant hues. The pyrotechnics weren’t just a visual treat—they set a new world record for the largest coordinated fireworks display across multiple locations.
Meanwhile, drones wowed audiences with futuristic animations and messages of hope for 2025. A Global Attraction
Seventeen-year-old Brazilian tourist Pietra Orsi visited Dubai with her family for the first time to experience the city’s renowned fireworks display. She shared that her family had long considered spending New Year’s Eve outside of Brazil and had dreamed of visiting Dubai for years. “To be honest, it was very last minute,” Pietra said. “We decided to travel specifically during this time to celebrate New Year’s in Dubai.
“Pietra explained that back home in Brazil, she typically spends New Year’s with friends and family, enjoying good food and music, but without fireworks. She noted that fireworks are uncommon there, partly due to concerns over loud sounds disrupting wildlife. “I’m not used to seeing fireworks, especially on this scale with displays at multiple locations. It’s not a tradition to see them every year,” she said. Despite cherishing her usual celebrations in Brazil, Pietra admitted this experience was unparalleled. “I would definitely spend New Year’s on a yacht again,” she added
Abu Dhabi’s Grand Celebration
In the capital city, Abu Dhabi, celebrations were equally grand. Corniche Beach hosted a breathtaking fireworks display that stretched for miles, drawing thousands of spectators. Yas Island added its unique flair with concerts featuring international artists and family-friendly festivities, ensuring there was something for everyone.
Sharjah and Beyond
Sharjah, known for its cultural charm, hosted a more traditional yet equally stunning celebration. Al Majaz Waterfront was illuminated by spectacular fireworks, while live performances and family events created a warm, welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
Other emirates, including Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, also contributed to the national festivities, showcasing their own unique styles of celebration with record-breaking firework displays and cultural performances.
Preserving Traditions Abroad
Teresa Gomiero, another tourist from Brazil, frequently visits the UAE during the holidays to spend time with her daughter, Elisabete, who resides there. This New Year’s Eve was special for Teresa, as she celebrated it on a yacht for the first time. Elisabete mentioned their effort to preserve Brazilian New Year traditions, such as wearing white to symbolize peace for the coming year.
The mother-daughter duo also observed a unique Brazilian custom of keeping grape seeds or exactly 12 pomegranate seeds in their wallets. “We dry the seed, then put it in the wallet so we don’t lose money for the entire year,” Elisabete explained. She emphasized their commitment to continue this tradition for prosperity while enjoying the festivities in Dubai.
