In our journey through life, we constantly seek ways to ensure that our final moments are filled with goodness, faith, and devotion. One of the most beautiful supplications that encapsulates this desire is:
اللهم اجعل خير ايامنا اواخرها وخبر أعمال خواتمها
Allahummaj’ al khaira ayyamina awakhiraha wa khaira a’amalina khawatimaha
Translation: “O Allah, make the best of my days the last days of my life, and make the best of my deeds, the last deeds that I engage in”
This powerful du’a is recorded in Majma’uz Zawaid (vol.10 pg.158) and is reported to have been recited by Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), one of the closest companions of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), as mentioned in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (Hadith: 30124) and Amali Ibn Bishran (Hadith: 1042).
The Profound Meaning of the Du’a
1. The Best Part of Life at the End
The du’a asks Allah to bless our later years with wisdom, faith, and righteousness. This is a powerful reminder that no matter how we have lived, we should always strive to improve and end our journey in the best possible way.
2. The Best Deeds as Our Final Deeds
Our final actions before leaving this world are of utmost importance. This du’a encourages us to focus on performing righteous deeds consistently so that when our time comes, we leave with actions that bring us closer to Allah.
3. The Best Day: The Day We Meet Allah
The most significant day in a believer’s life is the day they meet their Creator. This du’a instills a deep longing to depart this world in a state of purity, with faith and contentment, and to meet Allah while He is pleased with us.
